Figure One is a laboratory that supports projects, exhibitions and events stemming from all areas of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels at The University of Illinois School of Art + Design.

As an off-campus venue, Figure One is a public test bed for new ideas to take shape in the space between the safety of the classroom and the rigor of the professional world. The goal of the space is to fuel critical dialogue between students of the School of Art + Design and the broader University and local communities. As such, all programming of the space seeks to broaden the scope of discourse for student activity at the School.

Figure One achieves these goals through student-initiated programming and productive synthesis with existing School of Art + Design initiatives such as the Visitors Series and other public programs.

SENIOR EXHIBITIONS

Call for work - Deadline Monday, March 26

Figure One announces an exhibition opportunity for SENIORS in any of the degree-granting programs in the School of Art and Design.

We are seeking proposals for a GROUP exhibition of 3-20 people. The ideal proposal should have some sort of specific curatorial focus or thematic emphasis, and may come from any individual, group or collective comprised of current seniors from within the School of Art and Design. We encourage innovative projects and experimental programming—proposals that stress these qualities will be given priority.

Documentation of the selected proposal for last year's exhibition may be seen here: http://everythingisanythingel.se/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEUjUHXMHRI.

Proposals must be received by 5pm, Monday, March 26 to Jimmy Luu, and may be deposited in the Art + Design Main office.

Submission details can be found here(PDF).
